The SPF 50 Daily Sunscreen is a broad-spectrum, PA++++ rated sunscreen formulated for daily use on South Asian skin — specifically addressing the two most common reasons people in India do not wear sunscreen consistently: the white cast of zinc oxide sunscreens and the heavy, greasy texture of traditional chemical sunscreen formulations. Both problems are solved here through the specific filter system and the lightweight emulsion base.
The Filter System
A hybrid chemical-physical filter system using three actives: tinosorb S (bemotrizinol) at 3% for UVA protection, tinosorb M (bisoctrizole) at 3% for UVA/UVB coverage, and octinoxate at 7.5% for UVB protection. The tinosorb filters are next-generation photostable UV filters — they do not break down in UV light the way older chemical filters (avobenzone, octisalate) do, which means the SPF level is maintained throughout the day rather than declining after two hours of sun exposure. The absence of zinc oxide — the physical filter responsible for the white cast on darker skin tones — allows this sunscreen to be completely transparent on medium and deep skin tones, while the PA++++ rating (the highest UVA protection rating in the Japanese system) ensures comprehensive protection against the UVA radiation responsible for hyperpigmentation and photoageing.
The No-White-Cast Formula
The white cast problem in sunscreen is caused by zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — physical (mineral) filters that reflect light rather than absorbing it, which produces the characteristic white or grey tint on dark skin. While micronised zinc oxide (very small particle size) reduces the white cast, it does not eliminate it on medium-to-deep skin tones. The chemical filter system used here produces no white cast on any skin tone — it absorbs UV radiation chemically rather than reflecting it physically, which means there is no optical interference with skin colour.
The Texture
A water-in-silicone emulsion — the base that produces the lightweight, non-greasy texture that makes this sunscreen comfortable to wear under makeup or alone. The silicone continuous phase creates a smooth, slightly velvety skin feel that fills the appearance of pores and fine texture, providing a minor cosmetic benefit alongside the sun protection. The formulation absorbs within sixty seconds of application without the stickiness or greasiness that water-in-oil emulsions produce — the texture most consistently cited as the reason people stop wearing sunscreen daily.
Skin Care Ingredients
Niacinamide at 5% — included for its documented additional protection against UV-induced hyperpigmentation through its melanin transfer inhibition mechanism, which complements the UV filter protection with a biological protection layer. Centella asiatica extract at 1% for its anti-inflammatory properties — UV exposure causes an inflammatory response in the skin even below the threshold of visible sunburn, and centella's anti-inflammatory effect reduces the post-UV inflammatory cascade that drives post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
How to Apply
Apply as the final step of the morning skincare routine, after all serums and moisturisers. Use two fingers' worth (the standard SPF application quantity used in clinical testing — approximately 1.5–2ml for the face) to ensure the labelled SPF is achieved. Less than this quantity produces an SPF significantly lower than the label value — SPF testing is done at 2mg/cm² of skin surface, and most people apply less than half this quantity. Reapply every two hours during sun exposure, or after swimming or sweating. Under makeup, apply before foundation or BB cream — sunscreen should always be the last skincare step and the first makeup step.
